Dragon Care and Biology

Dragons are sentient and about as intelligent as an eight year old. Only telepathic with their rider. Average age of 50 years. A dragon without a rider (eg rider died, did not bond at birth) will slowly go feral, but finding another partner before this happens is possible. A dragon may be transferred to someone else's website or a different character. We encourage dramatic backstories in these cases, as it is not something that happens in-story very often.

Sexes are not obvious at birth, and invasive to find out as an adult, but usually dragons develop a sense of their own gender in adolescence. They are referred to with neutral pronouns until told otherwise - which may not always happen. They can communicate telepathically at birth with their bondmate - poorly - and despite popular belief are not born with names. You may name and gender your dragon as you see fit, and you do not have to decide on a sex unless your dragon is actively intending to reproduce.

They come in a huge range of colours, seemingly unconnected to the parents’ genetics, and no meaning has yet been found to correlate with colours. No colour is better or stronger.
